How to Read the Bible in 90 Days

Reading the Bible in 90 days, from Genesis to Revelation, in just 3 months is easier than you might think. But it’s also a commitment. To help you confidently complete the Bible on schedule, we’ve put together 3 tips for you to have the best experience possible as you grow in your walk with God.

The question we seek to answer: How do you succeed in reading the Bible in 90 days?

1. It’s reading the Bible in 90 days … not studying the Bible in 90 days.

This is taking in the Bible at the 30,000 foot level and going through it quickly. Later, once you finish, you’ll begin to study the Bible. And you’ll do it in a whole new way.

2. You can’t do it alone.

You need a friend, or even a group of friends. Maybe you’re already in a Bible study group, or there’s a different group of people you know at your church. Invite them to join you. It’s always wise to do something like this together, especially if it’s important.

3. Ask the Lord for help.

You need to pray and ask for God’s help. This challenge isn’t easy, but it is worthwhile. And it would be a mistake not to converse with the Lord when setting out to read his word.

You should also consider getting the right tools to help you succeed. You’d be surprised how much one small detail can be the factor that either helps you succeed or keeps you from finishing what you set out to do.

The Bible reading plan

When you use the form below to sign up for Haven’s 90-day Bible reading challenge, we’ll immediately send you a link to print or download the full Bible reading schedule. We’ll also send you weekly emails to encourage you along the way. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to check off each day’s reading to see how far you’ve come and how little you have to go.

The Bible you use

You can use any form of Bible and translation for this plan, but to help ensure your success we have a few recommendations.

First, you don’t want distractions. A study Bible is a great resource at other times, but remember that this is a reading plan, not a studying plan. It’s better to use a Bible without study notes so you have a higher chance of finishing the day’s reading.

Second, you want to optimize for easy reading. This means using a Bible translation you are either already comfortable with, or one that is best for smooth reading. For example, translations like the NASB lean toward a more literal translation, so it can sometimes slow the reader down in a plan like this. On the other hand, translations similar to the NIV are crafted to help move the reader along in a more conversational way.

For a plan as ambitious as this one, choosing the right translation for you can make a big difference! Even the size of the font and spacing may be the factor that determines whether you get to Revelation at the end of month three, or stop short somewhere in Numbers or Leviticus.

I suspect most people reading this already own a Bible that will do just fine. But I’ve found that the official NIV Bible in 90 Days has been one of the most crucial tools for people who undertake this plan. From the font to the spacing to the translation and headings telling you where to start and finish every 12 pages, this is a fantastic resource for someone committed to finishing the challenge on time.

For the many people who have attempted to read God’s word cover-to-cover and fallen short, this 90-day plan is a wonderful way for you to get to the end and thank the Lord for accomplishing something you’ve always wanted to do. It’s a worthy challenge. And I can’t think of a better way to start out 2022.

I loved your challenge! I got a copy of the chart and started it the last week in December and just finished this morning, March 11,2023. I got up early each morning and was able to read all chapters for the day in about 45 minutes. I doubled up days several times and I was able to read the Bible in 75 days. What I liked most was the fast pace because it helped me see the big picture of the Bible. And I don’t know how many times during church or Bible study when a passage of scripture was mentioned I said, Oh, I just read about that! The challenge helped me to get into the habit of reading my Bible every day. I enjoyed it so much I’m going to do it again…starting tomorrow!

      • I believe this website will go a long way to help Christians all over the world to stick to the Bible.

This depends on how fast a reader you are. I think one hour is a safe estimate to start from, and you will probably find you fall somewhere close to that range once you get started.

  • Fari Manyika Willoughby says:

My husband and I just finished. Neither of us could have done it effectively without the other. We held each other accountable and it became a crucial part of of our day. We both love how this method links the Old and New Testaments because the material remains new and we remember things in Daniel which we see in Revelation etc. We now look forward to deeper studying of the Word. Thank you for this tool.

    • Corum Hughes says:

Thanks for letting us know! That’s such an encouraging success story. I pray this experience leads you into a deeper appreciation of Scripture as your study gets more focused.
